New Ads from Free & Just Spotlight Republican Attacks on Abortion Access and Reproductive Freedom
Digital ads in key districts Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin call out Republican lawmakers for working to ban abortion nationwide
WASHINGTON, DC –– Today, Free & Just launched three new digital ads calling out Republican lawmakers for attacking access to abortion and reproductive health care nationwide. The ads, which are running in key congressional districts in Iowa, Michigan, and Wisconsin, highlight how lawmakers like Congressmen Zach Nunn (IA-03), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), and Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) have worked to ban access to abortion nationwide –– even in states where it is currently legally protected.
New data from Reproductive Freedom for All confirms that Americans across the political spectrum are nearly as opposed to a national abortion ban as they are to middle class tax increases and sweeping cuts to Medicaid. Still, Trump and Republican lawmakers continue to launch deadly new attacks on access to reproductive health care.
“Abortion bans are killing women across the country, and instead of working to protect Iowans’ access to care, Congressman Zach Nunn is hellbent on rolling back our rights,” said Ellie Davis, a Des Moines resident who credits access to abortion care with allowing her to escape poverty and build a life for herself. “Now more than ever, we must be clear about what’s at stake if extremists like Zach Nunn continue butting into the exam room.”
“My family and I endured cruelty because of medically unnecessary abortion restrictions here in Michigan. We carry the trauma of that experience with us every single day. Our pain is compounded by every senseless new attack on reproductive freedom launched by politicians like Congressman Bill Huizenga,” said Darcy Houchin, a Mom from Paw Paw, Michigan, who is featured in the ad running in M1-03. “Abortion bans are killing women and causing generational harm to families across this country. I will continue to share my story and stand up to the lawmakers who think they know better than medical experts.”
“I’ve faced ridicule for sharing my story in the past, and have even been targeted by anti-abortion extremist groups. But, I know that I made the right choice for myself, my family, and my son, and I know that there is no place for politicians like Congressman Derrick Van Orden in our deeply personal medical decisions,” said Megan Kling, a mom from Taylor, Wisconsin who is featured in the ad running in WI-03. I am proud to be featured in this ad, and will continue to stand up for everyone who is suffering under abortion bans, including my three daughters.”
